- Composed of 12 one-month rotations
- INOC stands for Intern Night
On-Call. Interns spend one half of one general medicine ward month and one
half of one specialty ward month on night float ( INOC). The other half of
the month is spent as a daytime member of the team. Unless “INOC” is
indicated on the schedule, the intern spends the entire month as a daytime
member of the team.
- Interns have 3-4 ambulatory
rotations. One month is ED and one month is Acute Care Clinic at
either Downtown Health Plaza (DHP) or Outpatient Department (OPD). Other
ambulatory rotations include:
- Ambulatory Geriatric Experience
(AGE) - A palliative care rotation which consists of approximately two
weeks of geriatric clinics, home
care visits and nursing home visits, and two weeks of palliative care
consultations and rounds at local hospice facility.
- Ambulatory Block - An
ambulatory experience consisting of exposure to community resources,
support services available to our patients, hospice care and a range of
general or specialty clinics based on the interests of the intern. If
interested, interns can use part of this rotation to start a research
project.
- Other outpatient rotations for
preliminary or neurology interns geared toward their personal career
plan
- These ambulatory months also
include special seminars on advanced interviewing and communication skills,
professionalism, an introduction to Evidence-Based Medicine, and an
introduction to the systems of health care and quality improvement.
- Interns receive six days holiday
over either Christmas or New Years, one week off From June 24 to June 30 and
two other weeks of their choosing during
ambulatory rotations or the ED rotation.
