Treatment with IFN alfa-2b at 3 MU TIW for at least 12 months normalizes ALT levels in about half of patients.
Less than half of these will have a sustained response 6 months to 2 years after treatment.
IFN also improves liver histology, but less is known about sustained response.
Increasing the length of therapy, but probably not the dose, improves response rates.
